Julius Motal is an award-winning photographer, writer, and journalist based in New York City. Restless curiosity and a desire to see what life is like beyond the concrete jungle took him to Istanbul in 2015 where he spent time with craftspeople and artists, chased protests, and witnessed how the refugee crisis and a worsening political situation changed the fabric of life in the city. In 2016, he traveled to Greece to cover the refugee crisis.

He was a student at the Eddie Adams Workshop XXXI in 2018. He earned his Master’s in Journalism from the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism in 2014, which is now known as the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism.

He works as a Photo Editor for NBC News.
